Part A – Ontario & Quebec Railway/Canadian Pacific Railway

  • Location/Address: The station was located on McMillan St, east of Main St
  • Railway Mileage: Winchester Subdivision Mile 82.0
  • Surrounding Building Context: The community was founded as a service centre that supported the surrounding agricultural farms, which included the development of mills on the South Nation River. The arrival of the railway did result in some industrial growth, including the establishment of a large Nestle milk plant, their first Canadian facility (see map for details). The station was located to the north of the commercial centre. Railway facilities included a freight shed, section house, water tank, and passing sidings/industrial spurs.

  • Construction Date: The building was constructed with the opening of the line in 1888 by the Canadian Pacific Railway (to be confirmed if an earlier station existed)

  • Exterior Architecture Details: The building was a two storey frame structure with a hip roof, a rectangular operator window that extended up into the upper storey, and a trackside passenger overhang
  • Interior Architectural Details: The ground floor of the station contained a passenger waiting room, ticket/operator office, and a large freight/express room. The upper storey likely contained station agent living quarters
  • Landscaping & Ground Details: Cinder platform
  • Building Costs: Unknown
  • Destruction Date: Not applicable
  • Current Use: After service around 1980, the station was deconstructed and rebuilt as a residence and garage at 13170 Nation Valley Rd (southeast of the community). The building does not resemble the original structure
